The Fam...In Depth

The purpose of this page is to get you acquainted with my immediate family. Or, if you already know us pretty well, then all this will at least assure that you don't miss a change in style or living situation or anything else like that.
Well, we are quite the bunch of characters...we like to laugh and eat and talk and just be together a lot. The meet and greets aren't in any particular order of age or importance. So, it will take a little thinking to figure everyone in your head, but hey, it's good to exercise your brain.

Alright, so this is me: Sarah Nelson. 17 years old.
I love to write, regardless of whether I have any talent or not.
My style is a tad satirical; just know that if I poke fun at you, it's cuz i love ya.
I love taking pictures and videos...especially hilarious ones.
I make jewelry...mostly earrings.
I have a little brown spot in my right eye that makes me feel unique.
I'm an athlete wannabe...i love sports but i'm not any good.
Most of all, I love Jesus, my family, my friends, and my puppy.
I really love to laugh!

^ post-january 2nd ^

These two are known to me and five other kids as "mom and dad". They're pretty great God-loving people who compliment each other admirably with their different strengths and personalities.

My dad is a funky Swede who passed his competitive spirit down to all of us kids, he has an expansive repertoire of corny jokes, and he's among the greats in the world of tennis. At least in our eyes, anyway.

My mom is great. She makes beautiful things with her sewing machine, crochet hook, and kitchen utensils too. She's among the supermoms who take on the task of homeschooling. Although she sometimes wonders "why?" she (i hope) loves it...and does it because God told her to.

This is Josiah, and he's 15 at the moment.
He can knock down three pointers like nobody's business.
He will forever be remembered in Little City, Bangor, Maine as the four square champion.
He can hit himself in the head with a soccer ball more times in a row than just about anyone i know (technically it's called juggling).
He's fast.
He's just the epitome of "cool", yet he is also my favorite little
brother because he loves  Jesus with all his heart, mind, soul and strength. And because he thinks its cool to knit. Yes!
He ^ was adopted, as a baby, form Detroit, Michigan. His younger birth sister followed four years later and we christened her....
ALYSSA.
Oh my. This ten year old girl is a riot. She has many nicknames, including Beans, Pinocchio the Great, and Big Al. My friends have often said Jojo and Alyssa should be comedians together. I just might agree. I believe their current plans for the future involve living in a camper and hosting a cooking show...lol. But anyway, this kid loves to dance and sing. She has an imagination as big as Texas, which she utilizes for sure in her world of stuffed animals. She's an exceedingly willing subject of my photography, so you'll be seeing a whole lot of this kid's face.
Yep, that's my little sister. Beans. No, those are most definitely not prescription glasses.
Meet Genet! Being 14, she's a little, how shall i put this...girlie. She wears lots of jewelry and a wide range of colors and patterns (some of which, when put together, warrant a rebuke from the fashion police). She hates being called "kiddie" (I have the eraser-inflicted wounds to prove it). She can be somewhat of a klutz...but she can also check you to kingdom come in a game of street hockey. We adopted her Christmas 2009 from Ethiopia!
LOL I can't really explain why I love this picture so much...maybe its that hat, which once was mine.
This is Peter. Being the oldest sibling, he's already gone and left us here at home.
He lives in Chicago, at the moment, and he's a teacher. We're all very proud of you, Pete!
He's a vicious card player...sometimes. Pretty much just when it comes to Rage. Maybe Rook, too. Definitely Risk, but that's a board game.
Whenever he comes to hang out (always a time filled with street hockey and buffalo wings) he brings hilarity and just a smidgen more of that trademark Nelson competitive spirit.
hahahaha, a better picture is below...

Michael!!!
I honestly don't know what to say...but i'll try to describe him for you.
He loves getting his picture taken. A lot. He's "a good guy". Quite the intellectual, as he wouldn't hesitate to tell you. He's pretty goofy. And he has a record of some pretty goofy haircuts, to go with his personality. He's a tease, too. He was the thorn in my side, growing up. All in all, though, he's a pretty cool big brother.

Hey look! It's Kodiak! Or Kody for short...this is my puppy. He's a Bichon Frise, and looks like he has a perpetual smile! His is what i like to call a hit or miss kind of brain. He can get into just about any trash can, find me in seconds when he hears my voice, and tug at a tablecloth to get the food on top to fall off...but he also pees on himself once in a while so i'm just not sure where that leaves his IQ.

So there you have it! The basic need-to-know info about my family:
The Nelsons.

The Other Old Chap is this slightly crazy person who i've happened to know for a very long while...let me tell you exactly how crazy this girl is...she hates mint&chocolate (a match made in heaven as far as i'm concerned), is allergic to my hypo-allergenic dog (not sure how that's even possible), chews ice for fun, gets injured EVERY SINGLE SOFTBALL SEASON, and can make your hair look like you just got coughed up with a hairball" is what i had in mind for an introduction. You like? of course i'll doctor it up as i go along...haha! love ya btw ;) ;)
